After God’s dramatic delivery of Israel from her slavery in Egypt, and her subsequent 40 years of wandering in the wilderness, under Joshua’s leadership the Israelites have now finally entered the promised land. They can get on with obeying God, and a new era of peace can begin.
Except that they don’t, and it doesn’t.
Instead of faithfully living by the laws given to them by the God who mercifully rescued them, “everyone did what was right in his own eyes” because “in those days there was no king in Israel”. Despite God’s repeated gracious intervention, the people’s sinful behaviour gets progressively worse.
What they need is a king to help break the cycle of sin and judgement. The judges saved them from their enemies; what they need is a king to save them from themselves.
This Bible study resource is part of our series of Pathway Bible Guides. This series aims to provide simple, straightforward Bible study material for:
Accordingly, we've designed the studies to be short, straightforward and easy to use, with an uncomplicated vocabulary. At the same time, we've tried to do justice to the passages being studied, and to model good Bible-reading principles. We've tried to be simple without being simplistic; no-nonsense without being no-content.
The questions and answers assume a small group context, but can be easily adapted to suit different situations, such as individual study and one-to-one.
We have priced this downloadable file on a per participant basis. So to print or email copies for other people in your group to use, or if you plan to read out the questions or explanatory text to a group, please update the quantity you are purchasing to match the number of people you will be sharing the material with.
