The ministry of Matthias Media exists to partner with you in making disciples. We want to come alongside you as a training and resource ministry, not solely a publisher of Christian books and resources. As partners with the Lord Jesus and with you, we pray for, teach, encourage and train Christians—especially leaders—to tenaciously pursue Christ’s disciple-making agenda, and to do so as the central focus of life and ministry.
We would love to partner with you and support your work in equipping leaders, establishing new Christians, evangelizing the lost and engaging your communities.
Matthias Media US has been around in Ohio since 2006 and its roots run even deeper in Australia. Tony Payne and Ian Carmichael who started the ministry back in 1988 with founder, Phillip Jensen, are still involved in the writing and training today. We provide practical resources and personalized ministry support to help mobilize you to make disciples by prayerfully speaking God’s word to others as God gives you the opportunities.
More specifically, we want to encourage and facilitate four key ministry emphases:
1. Maintaining a primary (but not exclusive) focus on expository Bible learning in all ministries
Expository Bible learning happens through the preaching of expository sermons, but also through expository Bible engagement in all the disciple-making endeavors of a church (or other fellowship). Alongside the expository teaching that takes place, there remains an important place for teaching doctrine and applied theology which are shaped by biblical theology.
2. Striving for gospel clarity that cultivates faith, hope and love in the Christian life and enthusiastic gospel speech within the church and to the lost world
Bible engagement is the means by which we come to know the saving and sanctifying gospel word. And as this gospel becomes more clear and better understood in a believer's mind, it will become more appreciated in the heart and more fully expressed in life.
3. Consciously committing to equipping every disciple with the mindset and ability to pursue Bible engagement with others—with the goal that all might have the benefit of a saving and sanctifying gospel clarity
Every Christian has a role to play in making disciples, in obedience to the Lord Jesus and for his glory. So we aim to develop ministry cultures that foster the expectation that this is the focus of the normal Christian life and equip people accordingly.
4. Using books and resources as a means to achieve all of the above
We encourage the recognition of how powerfully God uses the written word as an effective and useful ally in the disciple-making task.
We have two main families of resources and they are based on two of our best sellers: Two Ways to Live and The Trellis and the Vine. If you haven’t read either of those, that’s where we’d recommend you start.
The Two Ways to Live family stems from our six-point gospel summary by that name, and includes training resources and evangelistic tools for personal and church-wide evangelism.
The Trellis and Vine family exists to train all Christians to be disciple-making disciples. This collection has something in every category (engage, evangelize, establish, equip) and is an ecosystem of resources connected in a way that sets us apart from other publishers.
How do the two families of resources connect?: The gospel is central to all aspects of the mission of disciple-making.
The Trellis and the Vine argues for the priority of making disciple-making disciples. And it is the gospel of Jesus that saves and makes disciples (Rom 1:16), and it is the gospel that compels disciples to seek to persuade others to become disciples (2 Cor 5:14). It’s also the gospel that trains disciples to renounce ungodliness (Titus 2:12). Not only that, but the more profoundly and clearly a person sees how much they have been forgiven through the grace encapsulated in the gospel, the more they will love and follow Jesus (Luke 7:41-43).
…So, can we ask you something?
How effective is your church in pursuing Christ’s disciple-making agenda? How effective do you think you are personally? And is there any way we can help you and your church grow in gospel clarity and disciple-making?
Let’s partner together with the risen Lord Jesus in the good work he’s put in front of us.
Your friends and partners,
Matthias Media US
