If the Lord God came down to us …

—and if he had not promised and prepared for thousands of years in the Scriptures—

—and if he did not come in human flesh—

—and if he did not enter the world as a child—

—and if it was not told to the shepherds that he would be “a Savior” (Luke 2:11)—

—and if it was not told to Joseph that his name would be Jesus because “he will save his people from their sins” (Matt 1:21)—

—and if he did not stoop down to deal with us in gentleness and meekness—

—and if he did not repeatedly say “do not be afraid”, only believe (e.g. Matt 14:27, 28:10, Mark 6:50, Luke 5:10, John 6:20)—

—and if he did not give his life for us—

—if Lord God came down to us without doing these things, then our reaction would have been the same as that of Adam and Eve: at his arrival we would have run, hid and been utterly terrified.
